| While we're all disappointed that the annual fireworks display had to be canceled, the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for everyone involved... spectators, event staff, and emergency responders. Safety will always come first.
The storm left its mark across Lancaster County, with Ephrata Borough and Ephrata Township sustaining significant damage. Downed power lines, fallen trees, large limbs blocking roadways, and broken utility poles created hazardous conditions throughout our community. As of this morning, hundreds of residence and businesses remain without power while utility crews continue working tirelessly to restore service. We thank them for their dedication!
During the height of the storm, Pioneer Fire Company responded to 17 emergency calls in just 3 hours and 12 minutes. At one point, Engine 15-1, Tower 15, Utility 15-1, Utility 15-2, Traffic 15, and multiple Fire Police officers in their personal vehicles were all operating simultaneously at different incidents across our response area.
This is exactly what we train and prepare for. When our community needs us most, we're ready to answer the call and protect our neighbors.
Forecasts are calling for the potential of more severe weather again tonight. We sincerely hope it doesn't materialize, but if it does, rest assured that Pioneer Fire Company will once again be ready to serve.
Please stay weather-aware, avoid downed power lines, and never drive around barricades or through flooded roadways. Stay safe, everyone. |
