Once a month, our members come together to train alongside our mutual aid partners, strengthening the teamwork and skills that are critical when real emergencies occur.

The focus of last night's training was truck company operations and rope rescue skills. Little did we know that the evening's training would soon be put to use in a real-world incident.

At 9:07 PM, crews were dispatched to the area of Old Mill Road and State Street for an emergency medical assist. Units arrived to find an injured and incapacitated male partially in the water below the bridge near the library on Old Mill Road.

Firefighters, EMS personnel, and police officers carefully made their way down the embankment to access the patient and begin providing care. After evaluating the situation, it was determined that the safest and most effective method of removing the patient from the difficult terrain was to utilize Tower 15 and perform a lift operation back to bridge level.

At the same time, our Fire Police closed Old Mill Rd from State St to Meadow Valley to provide safe operations for all personnel on scene.

Working together, crews coordinated the rescue effort, safely extricated the patient to the top of the bridge, and transferred care to EMS for transport to a local hospital for further treatment.

This incident serves as a perfect example of why combined training with our mutual aid partners is so important. The skills practiced just moments earlier during training were immediately put into action, resulting in a safe and successful outcome for both the patient and emergency responders.

Training matters. Teamwork matters. Partnerships matter.

Thank you to all personnel from Lincoln, Ephrata Police Department, Ephrata Community Ambulance, and WellSpan ALS who worked together to provide the highest level of service to our community.
