Early this afternoon, Pioneers, along with Ephrata Ambulance and Ephrata Police, were dispatched to Rt222 Southbound for a motor vehicle accident.

Chief 15 arrived to find two vehicles involved — one with minor damage and the other sustaining severe front-end damage. The vehicles collided, with one striking the guide rail before crossing both lanes and coming to rest in the center grass median.

Engine 15-1 crews quickly mitigated hazards and returned to service. Traffic 15 and our Fire Police remained on scene to manage traffic flow until the incident was cleared.

⛔️⚠️. A SERIOUS REMINDER TO MOTORISTS. ⚠️⛔️

While operating at this incident, a driver chose to pass the vehicle in front of them by entering the work zone and driving directly at responders ... nearly striking two personnel.

This cannot happen.

When you approach an emergency scene, a Traffic Incident Management Area (TIMA) is established for everyone’s safety. Those cones and lane restrictions are not suggestions ... they are there to protect lives.

Passing vehicles and driving through the work zone is dangerous, and illegal/citable.

Slow down. Stay in your lane. Pay attention.

This may seem a little harsh, but if not for the emergency workers paying attention, it could've ended bad and no one wants to see that happen.
