| Upon arrival, crews encountered a light smoke condition inside the residence along with a strong odor of burning plastic. After investigating, firefighters determined that a rice cooker left on the stove had begun melting after a burner was accidentally turned on.
Our Fire Police, assisted by Lincoln Fire Police, closed Duke Street from Pine Street to Chestnut Street, Walnut Street from State Street to Duke Street, and Chestnut Street from Park Avenue to State Street to provide a safe work area for emergency personnel.
After the hazard was mitigated, the structure was ventilated, and crews confirmed there was no further
danger, all units returned to service.
This incident serves as a good reminder to always double-check that stovetop burners are turned off and to avoid storing appliances or other combustible items on the stove when not in use.
