Squad 1-5-2 Arrives

The Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company would like to introduce Squad 1-5-2, our newest addition to the fleet of apparatus used to better serve and protect the residents and visitors to the Ephrata Area. Squad 1-5-2 is a 2003 Chevy AWD Astro Van that will be utilized by the Fire Police division of the company. Squad 2 can carry 4 members and a host of traffic control equipment and devices. This vehicle will now help the Fire Police better protect firefighters and direct the community around emergency scenes from fires to accidents to weather closures. The unit carries additional barricades, DOT signs and radio equipment including the new Pyramid Repeater system which allows members to communicate further and more reliable making the job to traffic control easier and safer. The vehicle was equipped and assembled by the members of the Fire Police division of the Fire Company. Job well done.



     

 

Every 15 Minutes

Operational members are needed to assist in the “Every 15 Minutes” program. All those available are to be at station ready to leave by 10:45          on May 20th. The drill should take about an hour. If interested please sign up on the training board or contact Captain Weber. This is a pre-planed drill to be run as an actual call with live response to the scene. Other departments involved are Lincoln, Akron, Rescue, Ephrata Ambulance, Ephrata Hospital ALS, Ephrata Police and Life Lion. This is a national awareness program and further information can be found at www.every15minutes.com.  Video of the last program the department participated in can be found here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiKmAQv7RIg

     

 

2 Alarm Apartment Building Fire, Hammon Ave

Monday, April 19, 2010  Shortly before 2 am Monday morning units were dispatched to 998 Hammon Ave to assist Station 1-6 (Lincoln) with an apartment building fire.  First arriving units  encountered heavy fire from the rear and roof of the structure and quickly dispatched the second alarm assignment.  Multiple handlines were deployed and a primary search of all 12 units was completed while Engine 1-6-1, Truck 1-5 and Truck 2-5 (Lititz) set up for master stream operations.  Crews brought the fire under control in apporximately 30 minutes but remained on scene for several hours completing salvage and overhaul operations and hitting any hot spots.  Photos coutesy of Pumpfire.com

2 Alarm Dwelling Fire in Schoeneck

Friday, April 9, 2010  At approximately 9 am Truck 1-5 was dispatched to assist Station 1-9 (Schoeneck) on a reported house fire at 450 Hertzog Valley Rd.  First arriving units found a 2 story brick house fully involved with fire and dispatched the second alarm bringing in total about 14 Lancaster County fire companies and 2 from Lebanon County.  Units remained on scene for several hours to bring the fire under control.  Most of the house had to be torn down to completely extinguish the fire.  Photos courtesy of Stan Hall.

     

 

MVA with Entrapment, State St and Main St

Thursday, March 25, 2010  Units were dispatched for a MVA with entrapment involving a tractor trailer at the intersection of Main St and State St, Ephrata Borough. Arriving units found a car under the trailer of the truck with heavy entrapment. Crews worked to extricate the patient while EMS provided care in the vehicle. Patient was transported to the landing zone that had been established at Fulton Elementary School. After patient was extricated crew controlled hazards and removed debris.

     

 

MVA with Entrapment, Schoeneck Rd

Wednesday, February 17, 2010  Units were dispatched to assist with a MVA with rollover and entrapment at the intersection of Schoeneck Rd and Springville Rd, Ephrata Township. Units found an SUV had struck a fuel tanker causing it to overturn. Crews worked on scene to extricate patients from the SUV and control the leaking fuel from the tanker. The snow and extreme cold made for an even more difficult call.

     

 

MVA with Entrapment, Ridge Ave

Friday, January 29, 2010  Units were dispatched to the 300 block of Ridge Ave in Ephrata Township for a vehicle accident with a vehicle overturned off the road with the driver trapped. Units arrived to find a single vehicle accident with a car on its side with the driver being partially ejected and pinned between the car and the ground. Crews extricated the driver and packaged for transport. After pt was in care of EMS crews performed hazard control and returned to service. A special thanks to members of Eden Fire Company who were in the area and assisted in the rescue.

     

 

MVA with entrapment, N Reading Rd

Friday, January 29, 2010  Crews were dispatched for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment at the intersection of N Reading Rd and Grandview Dr. Arriving units reported a two vehicle crash with one driver confined. Units operated on scene to extricate and package patients as well as fluid and debris control.
