Crews were dispatched for a building fire in the 500 block of West Main St at the A-Plus gas station. EMS arrived with Lt 1-5-1 and found a vehicle on fire next to the building and advised County Radio of the change in call status. EMS crews responded from their station with extinguishers and prevented the fire from spreading prior to the arrival of Engine 1-5-2. The quick assistance from EMS and PD with multiple extinguishers prevented the fire from damaging anything other then the vehicle involved. This response prior to the arrival of the engine allowed a quick knockdown of the fire once the engine was on scene. It also prevented a time consuming overhaul of the vehicle as the fire was contained to mostly the engine compartment. This allowed the Pioneer volunteers to be able to return to work more quickly. The EMS staff was very glad the engine arrived as timely as they did as all available extinguishers were being used quickly and the fire was still growing and getting out of control. As Engine 1-5-2 returned to service County Dispatched advised of a second call in the district. Engine 1-5-2 and Deputy 1-5 responded for an Automatic Alarm at Cadmus Printing on Church St. Crews found a broken water pipe upon arrival. Back to back calls on a hot day.
